A Letter from the Mental Health Director

To all wildland firefighters and those who respond to wildland fires, we hope the fire season treated you well and you are able to take some time to rest, recover and be with those you love over the holidays. We want to acknowledge the tough and important job you do. What you do is both physically and mentally taxing and challenging in ways the public will never understand. We see you. You’re on the front lines, keeping the rest of us safe, protecting our natural resources, infrastructure, homes, cabins, and our future. The sacrifices you and your families make don’t go unnoticed by us. We understand there is a cost and that it can be difficult to talk about.

We’re here for you. No matter the time of year. We understand that life doesn’t stop and start with fire. We’re here to make sure you’ve got support on the fire line and at home. At the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, we’ve got mental health resources ready for you and your loved ones; because no one should have to carry the burden alone. We are 100% confidential. We do not report to anyone or any agency. Your conversations with us stay with us.

Your commitment is appreciated every single day, and so is the patience and strength of your families and loved ones who support you.
We’re here to look out for all of you, any hour, any day.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Wishing you and your loved ones all the best,
