We first learned of the Wildland Firefighter Foundation when we were cast in the Vicki Minor docudrama, “Compassion Spreads Like Wildfire”. Living in the foothills of Utah and California, we had no idea what Firefighting Crews, Firefighters, and their Families went through. You would think we would know more about who was saving our mountains as we watched from a safe distance as the smoke billowed above us. After learning more about the WFF and how dangerous of a job it was, that Wildland Firefighters and Crews risk their lives, and that some don’t make it back, we felt compelled to help bring more awareness to what goes on behind the scenes. We tell the audience how naive we were and how they can help the men and women who protect our Wildland by going to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation website or dropping into the memorial in Bosie, Idaho. We then sing “Stay In The Black,” giving them a heartfelt glimpse into a wildland firefighter’s heroic battle while the families wait patiently for their safe return home.
