| ALASKA FIRE SERVICE DONATION |
| We want to thank the Alaska Fire Service-Fire Specialist Division for their recent donation from a raffle held in May at a function that brings together the different divisions of the Alaska Fire service to build cohesion and communication before the start of the fire season. The Fire Specialist Division is comprised of a diverse group of individuals serving multiple functions in Fire Suppression, Fire Awareness, and Aviation Management. Many serve in wildland fire management positions not only in Alaska, but throughout the entire United States. Thank you so much for your support! |
| THANK YOU COLORADO WILDFIRE ACADEMY! |
Bernie Post and Linda Arnett were the successful quilt winners! |
Colorado Wilfire Academy attendees helped raise more than $2,500 last week for the Life Challenges Fund founded by Shawna Legarza and operated by the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. The Life Challenges Fund has been established solely to help wildland firefighters learn how to better manage the emotional and psychological stresses placed upon them in their personal and professional lives and to help those left behind, struggling to come to terms with their sudden loss. Throughout their careers, they are exposed to several incidents of high stress and learning how to manage this stress through the use of emotional intelligence can help achieve a positive mental attitude. Money was raised from an auction that included a quilt (pictured), a watercolor, and Cosmas Boots. A matching donation was also made by The Supply Cache. The quilt was pieced by Sharron Straka and hand-quilted by Diane Pugh. Thank you, Colorado fire folks, for your wonderful support! |

| May 31 - 14th Annual PRINEVILLE RUN |
| Fourteen years ago, fourteen firefighters lost their lives on Storm King Mountain in one of the single worst disasters for the wildland community. Nine of those lost were Prineville Hotshots. Following the tragedy, the Prineville community and the families of the 14 came together and began the annual "Prineville Hotshot Memorial Run" to honor their lost. A Wildland Firefighters Monument, erected by families of the fallen, stands in downtown Prineville’s Ochoco Creek Park, where photos and biographies of the 14 Storm King victims sit on rocks among aspens. A path of marble winds to a bronze sculpture by David Nelson, depicting three firefighters in a snag. Proceeds from the MAY 31 Hotshot Memorial Run go toward the maintenance of the monument and to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. |
